The client wanted to enlarge a personal sunset photograph and have it finished as a framed artwork suitable for display. After reviewing the image proportions, we recommended printing the full image at approximately 900 x 675 mm so the composition could remain intact without cropping.
Enlarging the Photograph Without Cropping
The original request was for a 90 x 60 cm enlargement, but the image had a slightly different aspect ratio. Rather than forcing the photograph into a size that would crop part of the scene, we advised the client to keep the full image and print it at the closest proportional size.
This approach protected the full sunset landscape, keeping the wide horizon, reflections, clouds and waterline exactly as intended. For photographic enlargements, correct proportion matters. A small adjustment in finished size can often make a big difference to the final visual impact.
Fine Art Printing on Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre
We produced the print on Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre at approximately 900 x 675 mm. This paper choice gave the photograph a rich, refined finish with excellent tonal depth and colour reproduction.
For landscape photography, especially sunset and water scenes, paper selection plays an important role. The right surface can enhance detail, colour, contrast and atmosphere without making the image feel over-processed.
A Bold Black Frame with Black and White Matting
For the custom framing design, the client selected a black matte frame with a black outer mat and white inner mat. This combination created a sophisticated gallery-style presentation, giving the image strong visual depth while allowing the warm sunset colours to stand out.
The black mat draws the eye into the photograph, while the fine white inner mat creates a clean separation between the artwork and the darker framing elements. This is a great framing option for dramatic landscapes, night photography, coastal scenes and images with strong contrast.
Premium Ultra View Glass for Clarity and Reduced Reflection
The client chose Ultra View glass, our premium glazing option, for the final frame. Ultra View glass offers excellent clarity and reduced reflection, making it ideal for photographic and fine art prints where image detail and colour accuracy matter.
In this project, the reduced reflection helped preserve the depth and atmosphere of the sunset image. It allowed the viewer to focus on the photograph rather than glare from the glass.
