At Jubilee Framers, we recently completed a meaningful custom framing project for St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane. The display honours First Nations veterans and service members, recognising their courage, sacrifice, cultural strength and continuing legacy.
This project required more than simply framing photographs. It needed a respectful, cohesive and professional presentation that could sit comfortably within a hospital environment while supporting remembrance, reflection and reconciliation.
A Framed Display Honouring First Nations Veterans
The display included a series of seven historical images, each printed and framed for presentation at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. The photographs feature First Nations servicemen and service members, with individual title wording included beneath each image.
To create a consistent visual style across the display, we used a warm, natural presentation. Each piece was framed with an oak frame, paired with warm matboard and standard glazing. This combination gave the display a soft, respectful finish while keeping the focus on the historical images and the stories behind them.
Custom Matboard Layouts with Printed Title Text
A key part of this project was the inclusion of individual title wording beneath each photograph. Rather than adding separate labels outside the frames, we incorporated the wording into the matboard area of each piece.
This approach created a clean, museum-style presentation and helped each framed image feel complete. It also allowed the display to maintain a consistent layout across different image sizes, including A4, A3 and A2 works.
The title text was prepared using a Helvetica-style typeface and a dark blue colour aligned with the St Andrew’s branding. This helped the information remain clear and readable while keeping the overall presentation professional and understated.
A Cohesive Oak Frame Presentation
Because the project had a tight turnaround, our framing team worked carefully with available oak mouldings and ready-made frame stock to keep the full display as cohesive as possible.
Oak was an ideal choice for this project. Its natural tone added warmth without overpowering the black-and-white and historical photographic content. The frames also gave the display a timeless feel, suitable for a hospital, memorial and community-focused setting.
B5 Landscape Plaque for the Display
Alongside the framed photographs, the project also included a B5 landscape plaque on white board. This plaque provided important context for the display, explaining its purpose and inviting reflection on the service, resilience and cultural strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans.
The plaque helped bring the full display together, offering visitors a clear introduction before they engaged with the individual framed images.
