Preserving Nostalgia: Framing a Vintage Murray Bay Holiday Resort Sign

At Jubilee Framers, we love projects that tell a story. This recent framing project brought a touch of Australian nostalgia into our studio — an original hand-painted sign from the Murray Bay Holiday Resort. Worn from years of sun, sea air, and happy holidaymakers, the sign perfectly captures the charm of a bygone era.

Restoring Character Through Expert Framing

Our goal was to preserve the original patina and authenticity of the piece while giving it a refined presentation suitable for display. We carefully mounted the vintage timber sign using an archival-safe method that prevents further deterioration. To complement its aged tones and hand-lettered typography, we selected a clean white frame with a shadow-box depth, allowing the sign to “float” within the display. This approach enhances its three-dimensional presence and protects the delicate surface from dust and handling.

Balancing Preservation and Presentation

Because the sign showed visible wear, including cracks and faded paint, we avoided heavy restoration that would compromise its history. Instead, the new frame design highlights the craftsmanship of the era and draws attention to the charming imperfections that make the piece unique. Anti-reflective glazing was added to minimise glare and safeguard the artwork from UV exposure.

A Testament to the Past

Framing projects like this remind us that not all treasures come on canvas. Found objects, vintage signage, and family heirlooms often carry the deepest personal meaning. By framing them thoughtfully, we help our clients preserve both their stories and their aesthetic value for years to come.
